Such a distinctly British song, and Keith's drumming warms my heart
This song was #1 in Canada for one week from May 20 to May 26 1967 on my 5th birthday and I'm Canadian, Ha!
2:10 I Saw Ya
2:10Not if you listen closely at the last second you can hear someone snickering, probably one of the band members snickering at moon. Such a shame the dude got kicked out for making his band mates laugh and here I thought most people's sense of humor was bad in this century 😅
Ahead of their time.
What the hell are the lyrics about
Moon played his drums like a guitar. There will never be another Keith Moon.
This is one of those tunes I NEVER get tired of....50 plus damn years and counting ...holy sh..!!!
I know Happy Jack!
I saw ya!
They dropped things on his back They lied and lied and lied and lied and lied.(and lied)
My Cat.
Drumzzz
Legion lol
The Who's first big hit with an endless list of great songs to follow..... This song will always be my Who favorite..
Keith Moon Tour deforce
New show Legion brought me here...
Greatest band ever thats no bullshit
'Tommy' opened the floodgates for them....
im a happy chris listening to happy jack..renoruona
The Who had some truly epic rhythm work early on. This is a monster, but also I Can't Explain, Magic Bus, etc.(Their later arena-rock music -- See also: CSI -- is good in a different way, though it's completely overplayed at this point. Yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah!)
I'm always here when I'm scared.
I like the art work on that cover.
Hummer commercial brought me here.
It wasn't the first Who hit to make the Top 100, but it was the first to hit the Top 40.
Happy Jack reached number 3 January 21st 1967. NME charts, sorry
この曲好き。意外に再生回数少ないな。
I forgot about this song until I heard it in a store yesterday.
At times, this song has defined my life. Happy jack. Yes, my name is jack. But it's about a pedophile. I am not that Jack. okay?
Cool artwork
the first ten notes; that is a popular jingle or song melody; from this era perhaps,; just as well known, but only by reference. I recall the song note by note, but cant put a face to it? Has a sorta swagger. Can anyone tell me? And no. Its not the Munsters Theme Song. I believe the song is a classic of some sort, in fact.
at the very end of the song you can here pete say "i saw you" because keith moon was trying to sneak in the studio while pete was recording
It sends a shiver up and down my spine!
jack bauer
Groovy
saw the who at the starlight ballroom in wembley in the sixties does anybody else go to the starlight in the sixties between 1965 and 1969
This and Substitute were the Who's best songs in my opinion.
I agree. That's some Clockwork Orange bad art there.
Just read somebody said Eminence Front is the greatest Who song ever. I like Eminence Front a lot, but this is better :-)
Drumming is out of this world.
:D and a smile for your appreciation of happiness and this song .
You're ugly
I SAW YOU!!
this is one of the best who songs-a song about happiness.
I just have to say... I love your user name!
Keith Moon could make the drums sing.
It was 1966....you had to be there.
FUCK GOOGLE
I downloaded the entire album, but for some reason this song was in it?
theres been worse
I like the cover.
It's not one of their greatest, no.
i love the who and this album.. but i gotta say, that is one of the ugliest album covers ive ever seen (:
Yep, completely true :)
@Grafietstift @ngiyaxolisa Hello, i believe i can solve the confusion. Somewhere on here, I DID hear an acoustic version of Happy Jack, with cello (I believe Pete sings it). You may have just copied down the wrong description or something. Just trying to help!
@ngiyaxolisa Thanks for your apologies (I can get a little annoyed over these things.) I'm a huge Who-fan so I often DO know what I'm talking about, but I can't help it when there are wrong things written in the descriptions for songs in an official CD booklet for a Who-album. I usually trust the things written in these official Who-booklets so yeah... I thought it'd be more helpful than just "Happy Jack, enjoy."
@Grafietstift True, and I apologize for going over the top with it. I overlooked the fact that perhaps a lot of fans of The Who are too young to have listened to Happy Jack, Pictures of Lily, and the like on 45's and wouldn't recognize the radio version of Happy Jack in an instant. It's a great thing that The Who's music still flourishes and still is appreciated, thanks in no small part to RU-clip and members like you posting things tunes this.
@ngiyaxolisa What an utterly childish response, by the way.
@ngiyaxolisa I'm sorry but I just wrote what was in the CD booklet of A Quick One.
What's with weird description, Grafletstift? This is the album version of this song and although you claim it's previously unreleased, I was listening to it all the time in 1966. Was I in some kind of alternate reality from yours? And that's not a cello, it a Gibson SG guitar. Beethoven would agree with you though, they sound exactly the same, but then he was deaf as well.
I first hear Happy Jack when it came out.I had the American album in mono.Moonie at his best!
I remember being HAPPY...now I'm Im old... and I pay taxes... and that hot chick I was after all the time is annoying me and telling me to go mow the lawn....sometime I wish I could just go back and be the me I was....HAPPY
john and moon swingun the BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!
Everyone's so focused on the drums (because they are amazing), but seriously, listen to that bass!
I don't know about you guys, but this song makes me happy =D
Percussion on this song is unbeatable. Absolutely great.
yea ... WOW!
great sounding clip, thanks!
When ever I hear this song I now think about Hummers.
This was featured on the Hummer 2 commercial a few years ago.
@Jiggs46 mine, too! my all-time favorite drummer
great song
The Live at Leeds version is epic.
Today calls for The Who, Happy Jack. You'll see what I mean . . .
you know, id like to think you are right--but if you just close your eyes and listen to nothing but the drumming-- its damned amazing fer sure, and you think how the heck could he have done it in one sitting? a kid down the road brought his rock band game over one day. he's a good drummer , and likes to put the setting on expert when he plays. So we played pinball wizard. ;) he could NOT keep up-- kept losing his place. testament to keith- best drummer ever, fer sure
yeah, used to turn all the setting on my cheap stereo where the drumming was more audible--and just listen to that in the forefront of the song, everything else in the background---i can see for miles has some of the most amazing drumming of any who song--tho i think a lot of it was overdubbed and pieced together. i read somewhere that ...miles was one song they could never play live.
Some of my favorite Moon samplings
Cheers!
