I hate to add a dissenting note (well maybe I don't) but I think I shall turn with relief to the original. Herbie Hancock is a superb musician and he probably does this as well as it could be done... but not as well as Ravel. Take what for me is the sublime moment of the movement, when the orchestra picks up the theme (at about 6 minutes). Ravel supplies wonderful arabesques for the piano, weaving in and out of the orchestral theme; Hancock, I'm afraid, gives us gentle tinklings. Not the same thing at all. Nice try though.

So cheeky like throwing rocks in ravel's buetiful still lake and watching the ripples. But it's amazing

I was told of this recording just a few days ago. It's the most serene and divine thing I've heard in a while. Quintessentially Herbie Hancock. Bravo!!
