I like this interpretation by (19 year old?) Yuja Wang almost better than the later version (also here on Youtube) because she plays it with the same cool elegance which is her hallmark, but less "driven". Unfortunately the sound quality sucks.

In my opinion, this is Yuja's very best rendition of Ravel's La Valse!

It is also the best La Valse interpretation I have heard from any pianist! It closely resembles Bernstein's interpretation. It is here on Utube. He conducts it in an orchestra in France.

I heard this piece from Yuja for the first time about three months ago. It is the best performance of it I have heard on the piano. George Li comes close, but Yuja is all heart in comparison. There just seems to be something a woman can do on the piano that a man cannot.Leonard Bernstein and his conducting of this composition in France is the best recording of La Valse I have heard in an orchestra. An extremely difficult piece to conduct.

I can't find one pianist who plays AS GOOD as this. They either play some parts really slowly, or the way they play it generally isn't as good.

Yuja Wang is a beautiful exception in the classic piano playing!

Is the sheet music online? I have a version but it’s nowhere near as detailed as this one

pianists have to add or take away as they see fit. the score is for piano and then an extra orchestral part which is often impossible to play, so its up to the pianist to score their own workarounds.

Just incredible!! Yuja Wang renders in an incredible way all the irony and the sarcasm of Ravel on the Nazi Germany and Austria under Hitler's dictatorship. Ravel was through this masterpiece of music a prophet on what it has to come.

I've seen this video more than hundred times. The new version's view is clear, but the sound.. seems like to be distorted unfortunately. There were no noises before updated. Amazing performance anyway.
