The music is absolutely a gift from Heaven, as Beethoven himself asserts. Thank you to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for graciously sharing such a performance, one of the best I've enjoyed lately, and a visual treat as well! Bravissimi! However, I don't know who or what translated from German .... I hope it was a robot. Aside from the huge gaps in the translation flow, probably due to repetition of words? Well .... that's unusual. But then The Creator, to Whom Beethoven dedicates this music in gratitude for the beauty of Creation, is repeatedly referred to using the pronouns he and him without capitalizing the H. Now, I'm not even religious and find that so ..... well, such a faux-pas, for anyone involved with Arts and Culture. Regardless of one's beliefs, it is very disrespectful towards about half the people in the World, or more. And disrespectful towards Beethoven, his work and his music. Most shockingly it went unnoticed! I suggest someone ought to fix it. Thanks again though. I really enjoyed it.

SOME OF OUR 17 YEAR OLD CITIZENS CAN VOTE IN THE UPCOMING 2020 PRIMARY ELECTIONS. Most people think that you have to be 18 years of age to vote in ANY political election in the USA. However, in 25 states now, some of the older 17 year olds can vote in the upcoming presidential primary elections. The laws state that a 17 year old can vote in the primary election if he will become 18 years old by the November 2020 general election. In 2020, if you are eligible to vote in the general election, then you can ALSO vote in the corresponding primary election. These laws are in only 25 states. For example, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, Kentucky, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Colorado all have 17 year olds voting in their primary elections. If a 17 year old is going to vote in the primary election, then that person MUST REGISTER TO VOTE BEFORE the primary election. In 2020, many high school seniors will have the opportunity to vote in the primaries. For more information, go to Google, and google in "17 year olds voting in the USA." There you will find a complete list of the 25 states. Let's everyone vote in 2020.

Live orchestras are beautiful it's like you can feel the music in your heart.

    Roger Metzger

The first time I played my violin during a worship service of the Free Methodists in Toddville, Iowa, few or probably none of the members had ever heard a violin "live". I later played in a Nazarene orchestra for a couple of years. Later still, in a baptist orchestra for a couple of years. The level of "musicianship" wasn't nearly what you hear here but please ask around to see whether there are any "church" orchestras near where you live. You might like the experience of hearing them live, even if they don't play "classical" music like this.

truly a piece for humanity...well done.

  52. Skovy Patton

just sayin'... a conductor really has very very little to do with the live performance...

    Chindanai Pornsing

Skovy Patton That might be true to a certain extent, but saying it really has no purpose here and is irrelevant. Not to mention that the conductor is responsible for aiding the interpretation and tempo of the piece in rehearsals, which has a huge effect on the live performance.

There is no other piece can match B9, it is a class of its own! If both landing on the moon and B9 are mankind biggest achievements, Beethoven did it on his own! Thanks to CSO, Muti and Beethoven for this particular video. Cheers!

Beethoven deftly inserted the notes DEAF in his most iconic Theme from the Ninth’s finale. He took his greatest vulnerability as a composer and transformed it into one of his most profound melodies.http://enigmathemeunmasked.blogspot.com/2014/11/beethovens-ninth-deaf-cipher.html

No sé qué piensan ustedes...

IT's amazing, Beethoven has truly reached immortality through his music. Nearly 200 years later and we are still enjoying this masterpiece, it has become so ingrained into music that you'd be hard pressed to find a person who doesn't recognize this piece.

Stunning performance of the absolute masterpiece. Nonetheless, 4,6K thumb down make me wonder wether I am totally incompetent or there is a substantial number of foolisch people who waist their time on Youtube. Who knows? However, the standing ovation to the performance seems to me quite reassuring.

  84. Marc Haxer

Riccardo Muti. Loved his performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Love his performances with the Chicago Symphony. Just a great conductor.

  85. super8guy

No questioning that this masterpiece is a sheer delight. I'd just like to commend the work and thought that went into positioning the cameras and directing the capture that enhances the outstanding overall experience. Thank you and bravo to the audio/video team at CSO!

  86. Dennis Smith

This is pure music. If anyone wishes, get the movie IMMORTAL BELOVED with Gary Oldman as Beethoven. Gives good insight as to what he had to overcome. It was so sad that in one scene, he puts his to the floor just to feel the vibration.
