By this point in his career, his voice wasn't even close to the best of his generation, and when I say voice, I mean the actual voice. It didn't matter though, because it was his interpretation, personality, and breath control that was rivaled by no others. Watch anybody else sing this song, and it won't be even close to as dynamic. He understood his role as a member of the orchestra...he played off them, and they played off him, and his voice was an instrument ready for improvisation and play. Nobody will ever be Frank.

Frank said he learned phrasing and breath control listening to Tommy Dorsey playing trombone in the years Frank played for the TD band. Now trombone teachers say, “Listen to Sinatra”. My son’s teacher also asks him to listen to Johnny Hartman - another great singer who is somewhat forgotten today.

@Bruce Kuehn Hartman is completely underrated, as are Johnny Ace, Arthur Prysock and Shirley Horn.

IMHO, the trombone solo by Milt Bernhart is what makes the original 1946 version one of the greatest recordings ever. The fact that it was left out of this version is beyond disappointing.

The George Roberts bass trombone part is there when the announcer is talking. The story goes that Nelson Riddle (himself an old trombone player) let George and Milt work out their own ideas on the arrangement which became a classic. His solo on this song was mentioned in Milt’s obituary.

I personally feel that this is his BEST version of "I've Got You Under My Skin" and at probably near the height of his singing career. Such expression and intensity where it is needed. This man was and still is a powerhouse (as Don Rickles said to him) A real entertainer with a golden voice. Never to be duplicated but others should take lessons from Mr. Sinatra on how to be a real entertainer. May he never be forgotten.

I love the game but THE VOICE brought ME here! This man will always be THE VOICE no matter WHAT! I’ve been listening to this man since I was nine. I see people just talking about Batman and I’m like, go back to listening to Kanye West! I know your mind is totally blown that music could sound this good, but REAL music is funny that way! It ALWAYS takes your breath away!

For all newcomer Sinatra fans, if you truly desire to immerse yourself with this man, you MUST get into his concerts. It’s the only way. His songs took on a whole new meaning when he performed them live.
