Literally all my favorite Ensiferum songs were made by Jari.No wonder i love Wintersun so much.Jari is a god living amongst mortals.

Snarkfish Petri is awsome too and suited ensiferum just fine as the front man.But Jari Maenpaa contributes a lot to the real ensiferum sound in the earliest two albums.Ensiferum is never the same again after Jari left.Kinda disappointed because never saw Jari singing lai lai hei or into battle recorded and uploaded in the you tube at all.

Pretty sure this isn't tribute to vikings. The Finnish are much like them in old pagan belief. owever, there is a fact that history didn't touch on. Vikings were terrified of the Finns. They believed they could conjure up storms, they were fierce warriors and appeared in what they thought was thousands at a time. Finns were truly the masters of war of the Northern races. They just didn't like to leave their forests very often. Most were merchants, and were generally looked at as strange in Scandinavia.

Viking wasn't technically the name for their soldiers and warriors. It was mostly what they called raiders, and plunderers. Vikings were pretty much just farmers, as well as merchants, but almost all the men became Vikings and learned how to fight. It sounds like they were an intimidating bunch...whether they were good fighters or not is yet to be read about for me, BUT they did scare the living shit out of neighboring countries. They used to file their own teeth to look sharper and they used to dye their teeth red. They also used a form of torture where they literally turned your back into wings by pulling your rib cage through your back. Wings of bone, and no I don't have sources. I have seen viking skulls though and they had sharp teeth and they were STILL dyed red some how. So fascinating.

So no, they didn't really break the soviet army, though their initial resistance is worthy of respect.

Ok I just have to point out that noone that lived in the region called themselves viking, viking didn't come about till sometime after the 16th century I believe much after all the major fighting had stopped, now those from Norway, Denmark etc did not fear the Finnish because of magic many Nords actually prayed to gods that used magic, in fact there are times where before battle they would throw a spear over the heads of there enemies and pray for Odin's strength and magic to strike down the enemies and protect their comrades. the reason that Finnish were not often the targets of other raiding parties was that they were just as if not poor then most around them so it wasn't worth it when you could go somewhere else, but in saying that fins, Danes, Nords, etc all fought amongst each other for power all the time, but for the most part those that lived around Scandinavia spent most of their time farming, fishing or trading like most other places did

@Thor Odinsson they are Nords and pretty mych the same except being Viking meant participating in raids and Finns didnt raid others that much so they were nit Vikings. But similar and better warriors

this isn't screamo, it's folk metal. It's just harder folk metal. at least you can understand what they're saying. I can't listen to Amonarth because I can't understand what they're saying, but it's pretty easy to understand Ensiferum's vocals most of the time
