The best
It does NOT get any better than this RIP JLH
I'm here for the fashion.
I sure feel sorry for his mom, since he was born with a guitar in his hands I bet that hurt.
Music ain’t like it used to be
Lost count of how many times i've watched this. Just doesn't get any better.
This beats anything on the charts today
I'm not interested in Chicago. True Bluesmen came from Mississippi River. R.I.P.
1:40 i got chills.
Epiphone produced a John Lee Hooker signature model of that guitar http://www.epiphone.com/News/Features/2018/Ltd-Ed-John-Lee-Hooker-100th-Anniversary-Zephyr.aspx
Always my number one jam at heart
Mélancolie, Rêve.... le meilleur de tous
Magnifique
So Beautiful!
fracasamos como civilización cuando esclavizaron a los hermanos africanos
Excelente! Alto nível!
Isso é muito F O D A !!!
Just pure, raw emotion and talent! No FX or trickery! Nothing but John Lee and his incredibly poignant sound.Gives me chills every time. The reason I play Guitar.
Raw, powerfull and emotional
Просто улет!!! Космос !!!!
Saw John Lee and BB in Montreal in a small theatre in the early 70's for $4.50 went for BB, but it was John that left the bigger impression.
That was..Wow!
Is time to be hobo in....
I learned to drive big rigs to John Lee hooker!
Do you have the rights to this clip? Can we use it in a program?
he talks to you so well and tells the story
What an absolute legend!
love this song
John Hooker albums are full of true life energy , no fake stuff here .What a true to life dude ! unlike the fakes running the world .
sad that music today is pure shit
This song is so sad...
"Next time I start to hobo'inI'm gonna have my baby by my side"No you're not. If you're a hobo, you ain't got no baby, and you ain't gonna have no baby, dream as you might. Incredibly, terribly, heartbreakingly sad.
John Lee Hooker is like „The Shaman of Blues“ to me. His music always taking me into some kind of trance state. This Is my favorite version of the song. I Hope this Video will stay uploaded for the Rest of my life. Thanks for uploading 😎🎸
Why does it sound like he is playing without amplifying his sound
Grande john lee hookers
My favourite FAVOURITE blues track. JLH was just awesome. Great voice AND guitar AND soul. I love this too much.
Wish JIMI HENDRIX COULD HAVE REMADE THIS ....LUV THIS VERSION THO
THIRTY TWO DEMORATS HATE THIS BLUES VIDEO.....
randy beard you know he was democratic right lol
lawd have mercy.
Good singing
amazing!
Immortel!!!
Am I right in saying, that the guitar strings tempo is played at the beat of 'His feet as he heads to the train'?
Good Gawd Almightee, what a great one John Lee Hooker was/is. Ancient roots...
Just great!
WHEN I WAS HOMELESS I SANG THE HECK OUT THIS
Where are you at now?
Will always love delta blues! John Lee Hooker one of my favourite players aswell.
Look at that mans face thats pain rite there real BLUES jack!!!
Love John Lee. Read down and see ugly racist remarks by some. Hurts me to my heart, but this is part of America. As American as John Lee. I hate that ugly racist part about my America.
A legend himself, underrated
I sure love black men
LAST POST REMEMBERING THE GREAT JOHN LEE HOOKER ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF HIS BIRTH ON AUGUST 22, 1917. What a wonderful surprise for me today. I just found this video while searching for John Lee songs to post. I had no idea such early film of him existed. In this live clip he sings a song we previously heard, Hobo Blues, but changes some of the words. What a talent he was and I can see why the women loved him.
This was filmed in Germany in 1965. There's also earlier film of him at the 1960 Newport Jazz Festival (he was backed by the Muddy Waters band!) on youtube, f'rinstance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf0kkkuYtyg ... I think that might be his earliest appearance on film. Muddy borrowed Johnnie's guitar for the sleeve photo on his 'At Newport' LP.
maravilha...
Higher guitar... Powerful man. 1:38 Tearful lines from devil guitars.
Pure hard blues.. nothing artificial, nothing added. just REAL BADASS BLUES
This must be the first time that John Lee went back to his original Modern Records/RPM Records sound while he was still signed with Vee-Jay in the early 1960s.
Lord knows he's traveling
Sensacional !!!
the emotions in his eyes are overwhelming towards the middle portion.
This is absolutely perfect
human perfection
This is the man who got me into blues!
excelent!
Dees is vuil
This for me is the best blues performance I've ever seen. Every note, the way his eyes roll up in his head when he's trancing on the riff, I cry every time.
oh what i wouldnt give to hop a few freights with the blues greats...
Simply amazing.
This may seem off topic... how the fuck can anybody be racist or discriminate if they access to all this music?
+Dan Jones African African made good music happen
not you I'm me, correction Black Americans made good music happen
Dan Jones : Most of the people on John's band were white. Even John himself said, "The blues is not black music, it's human music. We all feel the blues; we all suffer."
question for the ages, my friend
Cuz there’s lots of stupid blind bigots in the world who wouldn’t accept a new heart from a man like JLH.
Any other guys comparable to him?
Robert Johnson muddy waters howling wolf
Mississippi Fred McDowell
Lightnin Hopkins
I Love Black People too <3
no one sings like this guy...I think Bonnie Raitt said that there's nothing sexier than his voice in that grove...well as a dude, maybe not how I'd describe it, but it is elemental, for sure
Blues é sentimento isso é Blues!
I left a comment 2 yrs ago!!! 99 views? This is the most incredible blues performance I've ever seen, so deep and mesmerising! JLH had a huge impact on Hendrix !
Kevin James word- best performance ever.
Ai, como eu amo isso!!!
He looks like he killed a man before.
so powerful
too cool...JLH is one of them guys whose voice is so distinct it is impossible to confuse him with anyone else..just unique...the style of music is not entirely unique, but he also gives it something a little different....but that voice, man, that voice
+PorkFrog I'd argue his style of playing the guitar is pretty unique as well. He has a small collection of licks that I'd attribute to his personal playing style. Blues may be a fairly formulaic art-form, but I can quickly pick up on his playing style upon hearing it.
+sneekman well I read that he did odd things with tempo and didn't 'play well with others'-or others didn't play well with him, however you like to look at it. Supposedly had a free-form lyrical style. which developed from making lyrics up on the fly. Also read that he was taught by a guy who played 'hill country blues' or a droning, one chord type sound. I only know what half that means, just stuff I read...in fact, I've heard 'La Grange' by ZZTop for decades and just the other day said 'Hey, that's a John Lee Hooker riff or a very close facsimile'What is werid is the effect of droning type blues like JLH played...repetition should get old, but it's like the repetition allows you to go deeper in somehow, with a song like 'Boogie Chillun' for example, moreso than this one. JLH also means trills, trills and more trills...I like the dramatic effect of the Hubert Sumlin-like short bursts or flurries too
PorkFrog He played only one chord a lot of the time. Of course, somebody with the gift JLH had wouldn’t need more than one chord!
What are the 11 dislikes for? For just being a part of disliking? Cmon.
probably ignorant
the blues still lives , country has died , the only two true american sounds
+Kevin Zavala Jazz is still alive. Rock is an American sound even though the British player a huge role as well. Rap is still alive and there is some good rap, check out rage against the machine or Public enemy for some oldie but goodies. American music is still going strong. Idk about Nashville country.
I love this it must be the most captivating performance by John Lee Hooker I have ever seen it is featured on a DVD set that I have had for years when I first watched it put it this way I still have the same reaction now that I did then
Joe Mcgovern “Forboding” comes to mind...
I see people keep on taking the Blues as excuse to do more free/unnecessary promotion of his rock heroes. Please, forget those "roots and fruits" and just enjoy a master musician with his very own S-T-Y-L-E! Period.
Some people think he is just a boogiec boom-boom man, but he is quite more than that...
11 don't like it... just a bunch of fucking racist. Fuck KKK ! I'm the thousandth to like this video and i'm from quebec :) Peace to everyone :D \m/
Excellent
Mississippi Delta Blues performed by the master from the delta, John Lee Hooker!
Für mich der größte Blues Musiker aller Zeiten, weil er der beste Songwriter in Sachen Blues war.
+WenzTout Ganz klar, vor allem die Formfreiheit im Blues ist ja beachtlich, kaum Traditionals etc.....not.
That is fantastic. Both the guitar and the voice.
Tuning is Open A for those wondering. You can go Open G and capo 2nd fret and get the same sound
+Joan Gonzalvez THANK YOU!
True. You can go open G and capo any fret to get open tuning for any chord.
I don't wanna kill! My China Pig!
I like Dachau Blues.
@tbhamdg Dachau Blues is my favorite by him :) (together with Neon Meate Dream)
Fast and Bulbous!
The new sunrise I'm trustin'.
A Beefheart reference is always appropriate, especially in this case, and a Pigpen McKernan ref too.
que hijo de puta guacho forro
and belive it or not, produced for german televison!
Germans love the blues. Some of my favorites videos are from American blues artists playing in Germany.
@ 1:30 , His mama knows that allowing him to ride the train will eventually mean that "her son is gone" that is so sad and extremely poignant moment for them both I wonder if he waved to her?
+Joel Z. Williams Like to let son go in the army. Military hobo. In fench we say " baroudeur"
@John Doe ..no one cares about french....just listen to john lee n shut your frog ass up...
If this had 100 billion views we'd be living in a better world
Somebody would have to make money on it and take it down.
in time young padawan, in time
@kabo Rnat If I had a dime for all Jedi's paternalistic comment I'd have become a millionaire since long time.
@Miglior Store oh sorry, it was supposed to be a joke, didn't mean to paternalize you
@kabo Rnat So did I, kabo. So did I.
The song is from 1948, although I'm not sure when this was recorded for TV. Just wanted to give all of the fans of The White Stripes, Led Zeppelin and AC/DC a reminder who started it all.
@Joel Z. Williams Oh yeah! and so many others :)
+Hades McFadden The American Folk Blues Festival, 1965. Just found a full compilation of live recordings of different artists between 1962-1966 on YouTube. :-)
+georgeellas . So true.
