I lost my self respect and dignity as a young girl growing up on the streets of Dublin ireland. Living on the streets and sleeping on park benches age 13. My son beside me in his pram. The choice i had back then was to give him up for adoption@ mother and babys home while pregant I was the youngest child in there@the time. I dont know how i ended up there and i dont know how i survived the course. Run by all nuns i was called into an office one day, told to sit down. Handed a peice of paper to sign on the dotted line. I told them no and pushed it back towards them. I left the office that day knowing i was going to keep my son no matter what. As a consquence i was put out on the streets. Turning to drug addiction for the next 23 years to numb out the pain i found recovery in 2001. Compleate abstainence for the last 19 years i found Mary. He music words and songs encorage me to understand the depths of despair and back again. I have since earnt a masters degree in mental health and addiction Dual diagnosis. I am an expert by my own experience. I was kicked out of school@13 with no formal qualifications and dyslexic. My relationship with my kids today can be complex due to my own MH i am still a work in progress. I love them they love me but they know all too well the effects of addiction. They are proud of me my recovery then came a time they had to focus on themselfs. I have beautiful granchildren today who i love dearly. I am a fully qualifed counseller and have purpose in my life to help those who have suffered the same. There is no more gift in the world for any recoverying addict than to carry a message of hope. Those who read this am here to tell you " You can recover" there will be stuggles in your life but no more drama cuts it for me" Do go through what ive been through. Its not worth it. Go ask for the help be open to recieve. All things are possiblem I am living proof it works!
