Even though this song is sad in one sense, it’s beautiful in that it gives voice to an emotion a lot are feeling at this time of year and are afraid to voice... which only leads to an even greater feeling of isolation. I live in the UK and I always feel the Christmas /New Year period brings with it a weird kind of dichotomy...if you have good family and friends around you (as luckily I have) then it’s generally a positive experience...however the social pressure and pressure to consume Is ridiculous.. You’ve got people getting themselves into serious debt , taking out loans they can’t afford and putting themselves at risk of homelessness in order to provide ‘the perfect Xmas’ for their loved ones . the message that the more money you spend on presents the more you care and the more you love someone is such a misleading, damaging, and false concept. Also I feel a lot of people put themselves under a ridiculous amount of stress for a day that is, after all, supposed to be a holiday and time of celebration. I feel we should embrace the parts of Xmas that work for us and drop whatever overly depletes us in terms of wellbeing, energy or financial resources. I like this song for the truthfulness and that it connects us to what is meant to be the real meaning of Xmas

I work in Marketing, so all the ad campaigns of laughing happy families and polar express Christmas ‘magic’ vibes - is a commercialized idea. We all wonder why we aren’t ‘those people’ around Christmas time. The commercialized world with tv adverts, gift giving campaigns, snow falling, excessive joy in shopping malls - these are all strategized experiences. These aren’t organic experiences. As a kid, you bought into it. As an adult, you may not buy into the vibe - it may in fact leave you feeling disconnected and left out. This is also a behavioral science technique to create a deep desire within people to try get into the spirit by BUYING things. Christmas isn’t about commercialized gimmicks, although industries have made it that. It’s about Jesus and His Birth. That’s why Christmas exists at all. I hope this year, this truth connects with someone and each Christmas from now, you remember the gift available to you which is Jesus. Love you all, blessings 🌺
