After all this years, this has become my favourite Metallica song, it's so perfect.

Honestly yes the retail version we're all stuck with is dog shit in comparison to a properly mastered version, but can we all just appreciate how underrated Death Magnetic is. I know I'm a youngin compared to all you grown folk who’ve been listening since the 80s, but i still remember the day I begged my mom to buy me this record the day it came out. I was in 6th grade, browsing around at best buy, when all of a sudden i saw the most badass cover art I'd seen in my whole dumb ass kid life. Keep in mind that beforehand all I had listened to, not just in the context of the band but of metal as a whole genre, was Master of Puppets, the singles everyone knows from their s.t., and whatever garbage my local radio station would be blaring at the time. Metallica was the first band that I really plunged head first into to grab a hold of the lightning that my soul would feel every time one of their songs would come on. Little did I know how much electricity this shit would blast me with as I sat down for the first time in front of the stereo, cd book in hand,ready to read along with the lyrics. I then listened to this record maybe 5 times in a row that first day. Countless times since. It almost feels like yesterday that I was that small child with just a gleam in my eyes and a thirst for some music that truly spoke to my soul and to the inner me who I was destined to become. Of course, that was over a decade ago at this point, Im now considered one of them grown folk... at least according to whatever kid saw Hardwired for the first time at the store and thought "damn, that looks fuckin twisted.” Even then, every time I listen to any of these songs, I'm instantly taken back to 6th grade, and I still can't get enough.

I still remember when Death Magnetic came out, I was 16 I think. Everyone was like oh no Metallica has given it everything, they've not got much left. And then these songs came out, oh man, countless people had to eat their words (along with fingers some). This album revived rock music fandom. Personally speaking, Unforgiven III is my favorite out of all three Unforgiven tracks. Thank you Metallica!
