People seem to think that he is from Bulgaria. That's not true. His father was a Pastirma (Pastrami) seller from Erzurum. They moved to Bursa after Fatih was born. Fatih grew up to work in a Fashion House as an errand boy. After that he worked in various Casino's/Nightclub's in Istanbul untill he became famous.

Most Turks don't deny that this is an Armenian Song. Except a few who don't know anything about history and music. It is common knowledge among Turkish musicians. There is a debate about wether some other songs are Armenian or Turkish/Azeri, but not this one. There is also a Kurdish version of it as far as I know.
